Entering Mystery with the Guardians, the 2007 Feri Intensive
Very little of the lore of the Feri Guardians has made it into print that distinguishes them from the more generically pagan Directional/Elemental Guardians. And yet, the Guardians form a core within our magical practice as Feri. Perhaps we have not written or spoken of them in more open arenas because they contain and are one of our deep Mysteries! The Guardians anchor us to the Tradition and the Feri Current. Much more than Elemental Spirits, they are teachers and coven-mates. Entering into relationship with them leads us deeper and deeper into the mysteries of the Craft--initiating us into new ways of Seeing, Knowing and Being!
In Circle we may invoke them by saying, "Mighty Guardians of the Elements of Life!" In doing so, we are calling upon the vast Beings who Guard the Elements of Life! Our Guardians are not representatives of the Elements. They not only have the Elements of Life within them, they are the Elements of Life Itself; the stuff of creation; Life-Force in its most raw, power full and unmitigated form.
Lore suggests they are our Ancestors. Feri teaches that they took part in the making of the first Witches. Those drawn to the Craft, and perhaps more specifically to the Feri Tradition of the Craft are answering an ancient call that bubbles up singing from our very blood. In entering into relationship with the Guardians, we return to our first teachers.
They LOVE us! And in their love, they desire to teach and assist us in our Craft, to help us in our endeavors. This means they might point out what we need to do in order to release our perceptions of powerlessness (our complexes). They might inspire us to create a thing of beauty. They might encourage us not to settle for less than our true heart's desire. They might insist we stand up for ourselves! They most certainly will lend Power to our Craft.
When we ask, "What is the Work of this God?", the Guardians guide us as we seek to answer the question. They train us in the skills necessary to heal ourselves so we are capable of doing the Work of this God. They empower us so we can make manifest that Work in the world--be it caring for the sick, protesting injustice, creating works of art or raising our children. As Above, so Below.
